100-Yen Seria & Daiso Handmade: Making Kids’ Scarves with a Scarf Knitting Loom

Make Scarves for Three Kids for Just 660 Yen!
Hello, this is Kanahina☆
This time I would like to share how I made scarves using Seria’s scarf knitting loom.
I have three boys, ages 6, 3 and 0, so I decided to knit a scarf for each of them.
I have tried many handmade projects, but knitting was completely new to me.
I have always wanted to try knitting someday, and this time I used Seria’s scarf knitting loom as an easy first step😊
The loom in the photo is pink because I bought it a few years ago and had kept it in storage, but the color seems to have changed this year.
Daiso also sells a similar item called Yarn de Knit Straight.
Which yarn did I use?
The yarn I used for these scarves was Daiso’s Amucoro.
It is a fluffy, extra-thick yarn that feels soft to the touch. The changing colors are really cute💕
It is also recommended for amigurumi.
This Amucoro yarn costs 110 yen per ball and has about 18 m of yarn.
The Daiso store I visited had six colors, and I chose Blueberry, Honey Milk and Cotton Candy.
How many balls of yarn do you need?
| Materials | For age 0 1 ball of yarn For age 3 2 balls of yarn For age 6 2 balls of yarn 1 scarf knitting loom |
|---|---|
| Material cost | For three children: 550 yen including tax for yarn + 110 yen including tax for the scarf knitting loom |
| Work time | About 5 hours to make scarves for three children |
For these three scarves, my boys move around a lot, so I thought a long scarf wrapped several times might come loose.
I made them as one-loop scarves fastened with a button. Here is a size comparison of the three scarves.
For age 0: 11 cm wide and 52 cm long. I knitted from marks 1 to 10 on the scarf loom and used one ball of yarn.
For age 3: 13 cm wide and 75 cm long. I knitted from marks 1 to 14 on the scarf loom and used two balls of yarn.
For age 6: 15 cm wide and 70 cm long. I knitted from marks 1 to 16 on the scarf loom and used two balls of yarn.
The scarf for the 3-year-old is longer than the 6-year-old one because I used up two full balls for both. For a 3-year-old, it could probably be a little shorter.
The largest one for age 6 is just barely long enough for me as an adult, so an adult-size scarf would likely need 3 to 4 balls of yarn.
I knitted little by little while the children were sleeping, so it took me three days for all three scarves, about five hours in total.
I also made a knitted hat, but that took about a week, so these scarves were much quicker to finish.
Add a handmade touch with shrink plastic!
I planned to fasten the looped scarves with buttons, but I could not find buttons at Seria that had the size and look I wanted.
So I decided to make them myself. Here are the finished buttons!

They are garden eel and spotted garden eel buttons made from shrink plastic♡
Their slim shape fit perfectly through the stitches of the scarf♪
Here is how they look when worn. Pretty cute💖

This time I made children’s scarves using materials from 100-yen shops Seria and Daiso. What did you think?
It takes a little time, but the process is not difficult and I was able to knit smoothly😊
I hope these scarves will keep the boys warm while they play outside this winter.
They are inexpensive to make, so please give it a try if you are interested!
I hope this helps you enjoy a fun handmade life💕
