A 42-Year-Old Woman Tried the GeneLife DIET Obesity Gene Test Kit! My Result Was the Pear Type—Plus Reviews and Reputation

This is my personal experience with the GeneLife DIET obesity gene test!
Hello, I’m Kanahina☆
For anyone who feels, “I don’t eat that much, but I can’t lose weight...” or “I don’t know why I gain weight!”
I was also someone who did not know the reason, and as of 2023 I am a 42-year-old woman!
This time, I tried the relatively affordableGeneLifeDIET test.
GeneLife is a test kit that shows tendencies and characteristics related to your genetic constitution, and DIET is a kit specifically focused on obesity gene testing!
I also searched for terms like “tried a genetic test,” “reviews,” and “GeneLife reputation,” so I’ll write this for people searching with those kinds of keywords😊
By the way, I bought mine on Amazon😊
Why I purchased GeneLife DIET
Before buying it, I had looked online and learned that obesity types can be classified into four types, so I wanted to know which one applied to me.
If I did not know that, I would not know which factors make me prone to gaining weight, and I thought dieting might become inefficient🥺
Let’s take a quick look at the four types!

[Apple type]Tends to gain weight from carbohydrates. Reduce rice and bread consciously.
[Pear type]Tends to gain weight from fats. Rice and sweets are relatively okay to eat.
[Banana type]Tends to have difficulty building muscle. Consciously take protein and do strength training.
[Adam/Eve type]Tends to have lifestyle habit issues. Improving habits is important.
As someone who has loved cake for 42 years, I predicted that I would be the“Apple type”😊
Before the results, I’ll explain the flow of the GeneLife DIET web and app version

When you take it out of the outer box, this is the package inside.
I ordered mine from Amazon, and it arrived in about two days.
I’ll also explain the actual testing steps.
First, fill out the questionnaire and consent form

There is a questionnaire asking things like what illnesses your family members have had and whether you smoke, so you answer calmly one by one.
There is also a consent form, so you fill that out too.
There is a fairly large amount to write, but I wanted my results quickly, so I kept my mind blank and filled it in😳
The test kit only requires rubbing the inside of your cheeks

You simply rub the inside of both cheeks about five times. After that, let it dry for about 10 minutes.
It says that if you cannot mail it the same day, you should store it in the refrigerator.
I wanted my results quickly, so I went to mail it right away😊
Then all that’s left is to put it in the envelope and mail it!
Put the questionnaire, consent form, and test kit into the included envelope and mail it. There is no postage cost, so you can send it as is!
The web version requires user registration on the website
The one I bought this time is the type where you view results online. This type is cheaper than the mailed-results version.
For the web version, you need to create a user account on the GeneLife website, but registration is easy.
The overall flow is simple. Roughly speaking, it goes like this!
STEP 1: Register for the test
↓
STEP 2: Fill out the consent form
↓
STEP 3: Collect the sample
↓
STEP 4: Return it by mail
↓
STEP 5: View the results
The testing time is about two to three weeks after the kit arrives at GeneLife.
After the test is complete, they contact you at the email address you registered💕
My GeneLife DIET results arrived! Which type was I?
Seven days later, I received an email saying that the test was complete.
It was faster than the two to three weeks they said! Let’s look at the results right away!
To my surprise, I was the “Pear type”😣
I was the “Pear type,” which tends to gain weight from fats.
I was not the Banana type, which has difficulty building muscle, nor the Adam/Eve type, which has lifestyle habit issues.
I was the “Pear type,” which is not good at breaking down fats.
I wish I had taken a genetic test much earlier😣
It is hard to keep trying without knowing your own tendencies...
But now I know which type I am, so I’ll keep working hard from here😊
Once again, let’s look at the four types one more time.
So the times I forced myself to reduce rice while dieting were a waste! Ugh...
Since I’m not good at exercise, I tended to try restricting food, but for Pear types, a diet based on not eating seems to be a bad idea...
No wonder I was not getting results. I wish I had known sooner (;∀;)
The test result report also comes with a recipe book, so it seems useful for dieting!
The 16-page report lets you check the following.
・Supplementary explanation of your genotype
・Recommended diet
・Advice about exercise
In addition, the recipe book mentioned above is included!
It includes recipe points for each type and recommended recipes that can serve as future dieting guidelines, so I personally found it very helpful.
Recommended stretches were also included, so I want to start practicing them right away!
That said, I do not want to rely too heavily on the results. I want to keep following a balanced diet and appropriate exercise. That is the difficult part, though...

I’ll include the Amazon link where I bought mine😊

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q.1What exactly can you learn from GeneLife DIET?
-
A.1
You can learn your “obesity type,” such as which foods tend to make you gain weight. Specifically, it identifies one of four types: Apple, Pear, Banana, and Adam/Eve.
-
Q.2Will the result change depending on when I take the test?
-
A.2
Your genes remain the same throughout your life, so the result does not change.
Because genetic information does not change throughout life, your test result will not change depending on your age, physical condition, pregnancy, or similar factors at the time of sample collection.
-
Q.3If I have a cold or illness, should I wait until I recover before taking the test?
-
A.3
A genetic test examines characteristics you were born with, so it is not affected by your current physical condition. Therefore, taking it at any time does not affect the test result.
However, viruses in the mouth or the effects of medications you are taking may increase the chance that retesting will be required, so it is recommended to take the test after you recover.
-
Q.4How can I purchase the test kit?
-
A.4
In addition to GeneLife’s own website, you can purchase it from shopping sites such as Amazon, Yahoo! Shopping, and Qoo10.
I purchased mine on Amazon.
-
Q.5What is a test sample?
-
A.5
It refers to saliva or oral cells collected using the sampling tool for testing.
By returning this test sample together with the consent form, genetic analysis can be performed.
-
Q.6Is collecting the test sample easy?
-
A.6
Yes, it is easy!
The method uses a dedicated cotton swab to rub the mucous membrane inside the cheek, and it does not involve pain or bleeding.
-
Q.7Do I need to submit a consent form?
-
A.7
The test application consent form is an important document that confirms you have reviewed the explanatory document attached to the consent form. Customers must understand the purpose for which the company provides genetic testing, the testing method, the expected test results, and possible benefits and disadvantages, and submit the consent form together with the test sample collected of their own will.
-
Q.8I was contacted about retesting. Will there be an additional fee?
-
A.8
For users of DIET, the company can provide, free of charge, one full set of materials necessary for testing and conduct one retest without additional billing. However, if retesting is required two or more times, the necessary materials and retesting costs will be borne by the applicant.
-
Q.9How is the test result data stored?
-
A.9
According to Genesis Healthcare Co., Ltd., it is strictly managed as follows.
When handling personal genetic information and personal information (*), the company complies with the Guidelines for Protection of Personal Information in Business Fields Using Personal Genetic Information in the Industrial Sector issued by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (established December 17, 2004; revised March 23, 2021), as well as the voluntary standards of the Association for the Handling of Genetic Information.
Test samples and test result data are handled after anonymization or coding. If anonymized information falls under personal information, it is appropriately supervised so that information security is ensured under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
-
Q.10I am under 18. Can I purchase a genetic test kit?
-
A.10
No. Genetic test kits can only be used by people aged 18 or older. However, GeneLife WGS can be used by people under 18 if they have the consent of a person with parental authority.
Finally, I’ll review thereviews and reputation of the GeneLife DIET obesity gene test!
This is an article where I share my own thoughts on reviews and reputation for GeneLife DIET from various places😊
I describe both good and bad points openly, so I hope it helps you.
Trends in reviews from people giving ★★★★★ to ★★★★
- (5.0)They learned which of the four genotype diet types applied to them
- (5.0)They learned which foods they should be careful with
- (5.0)The stress of blindly exercising, reducing fat, or cutting carbohydrates disappeared
- (4.0)It switched on their motivation to work seriously on dieting
Looking at these review trends, many seem to be from people trying an obesity gene test kit for the first time.
People who did not know their genotype diet type were satisfied that it became clear and that foods to watch out for were explained, leading to high ratings😊
Trends in reviews from people giving ★★★
- (3.0)The questionnaire that must be returned with the test kit is troublesome. Some were dissatisfied that it asks about family medical history, education, and similar topics
- (3.0)The four genotype diet types are good, but the advice feels template-based
- (3.0)It only gives information such as whether you gain weight from fat or carbohydrates, so there is not much else to use as a reference
- (3.0)It is good that the test results can be checked by email and online, but it is a little disappointing that they are hard to read and do not come immediately
The trend in these reviews is that some people were dissatisfied with how complicated the questionnaire was and whether all the content was necessary.
Some also felt disappointed by template-like advice and the fact that results did not come right away.
These people tended to give three-star reviews.
Many seemed to feel that it was fairly good, but they wanted a little more satisfaction😊
Trends in reviews from people giving ★★ to ★
- (2.0)They felt distrust, wondering whether the result was actually based on the questionnaire
- (2.0)For people who already know how to lose weight, the answer felt like “Oh, okay” and nothing more
- (2.0)It felt like a report template was being sent, and they wondered whether it could apply to anyone
- (1.0)Even though the price was close to ¥5,000, they felt there was less information than expected
Looking at these trends, many reviewers seemed to be quite knowledgeable about dieting or had experience with obesity gene testing from other companies.
Some people who knew a lot about weight loss, or came from athletic families, felt that the tendencies for themselves or their families were largely off.
There were also scattered opinions saying that the price was not satisfying😣
To summarize the reputation of GeneLife DIET
For people trying it for the first time who do not know which genotype diet type applies to them and do not yet know what diet method or meals are recommended, GeneLife DIET seems especially suitable.
If you are not looking for highly detailed results or comments from a doctor, and simply want to get out of a state of not knowing anything and start dieting more efficiently, I think it is very easy to recommend.
In my case too, I had no information and did not know my type or dieting method, so I bought it. Considering the price, I was satisfied with the result because it helped me understand myself💕
On the other hand, if you already know a lot about dieting, have received tendency results from another company in the past, and have knowledge and experience with obesity gene testing, you may not be satisfied in terms of depth.
If that applies to you, it may be better to look for something closer to personalized advice, such as a service with more detailed explanations from a doctor😊
What did you think?
I think checkingreviews and reputation before purchasing is very important, so I covered and analyzed it this time.
I hope it was helpful😆
